Dawnbringer, Part 11

General Summary

[The following is from the Kythorn 1379 edition of The Waterdeep Gazette:
HEROES SLAY GARDEN VILLAIN!

In a supreme act of bravery, local adventuring party, the Dawnbringer Company, tracked down the murderer running loose in the Heroes' Garden. Apparently a vampiric gold dragon, Llimark, had taken up residence within the fabled Catacombs of Yintros. These intrepid heroes received help from our own Watchful Order of Magists and Protectors, according to scholar Illighast Chamnabbar, who provided them with the secret password in exchange for their help. However, this investigator happened upon a wanted poster that claimed two of the members of the Company were wanted in connection with extorting the very same scholar, but Chamnabbar offered no comment and all charges have been dropped.

The Watch have still closed off the area, as several traps were found disabled, but there were signs of conjuration magic lingering in the area. Suspicions are high that a summoning ooze is still loose in the Catacombs, despite its summoned nasties being defeated. The bodies of several vampire spawn were discovered as well, but have been staked by local vampire experts the Foes of the Fang.

As for the remains of the gold dragon itself, authorities are still investigating, but initial reports say that the Company dispatched the creature after casting several careful spells and then staked it with a sharpened quarterstaff. The gold hoard apparently was granted to them by the Talons of Justice, but the closest member, Arendelonthos, refused to comment, saying, "All exchanges made between me and the heroes are between us. I am a Talon no longer."

We can only hope that the tale of the Dawnbringer Company is not over!

Aura strong transmutation; CL 17th; Slot —; Price 13,500 gp; Weight
Originally fashioned by the Netherese, spell-lenses have only recently been recovered from the ruins of the Sargauth Enclave by explorers of Undermountain. A spell-lens resembles a small crystal oval with a socket on one end that attaches to the end of a wand. When used in such a fashion, a spell cast from a wand acts as if affected by both the Empower Spell feat and the Enlarge Spell feat, but costs triple the normal number of charges. If the wand lacks sufficient charges, the spell-lens has no effect.

Aura faint divination; CL 7th; Slot ring; Price 2,500 gp; Weight
A ring of research is a simple gold or silver ring set with a colored gemstone. When worn, it enables the wearer to quickly and unerringly fi nd the right page in the right book or scroll to answer any question, assuming the wearer has access to a library that actually contains the answer. The practical effect of this power is to double the circumstance bonus on Knowledge checks given by access to a library. (If no such bonus is specifi ed, assume the ring of research gives a +2 bonus.)
Feats Forge Ring; Spells legend lore; Cost 1,500 gp

[10,425 gp] Spellbook of Daimos
This tome bears no title or inscription, and is fashioned of fine, heavy parchment pages sewn to a waxed cord binding, which is stretched and nailed to an oaken spine, to which in turn are bolted covers of fine bronze, the whole covered with stretched silver dragonscale. The Spellbook weighs heavily and is three hand-lengths broad by four in height. It is as thick as two hands wide, bearing within 150 pages (143 are used). A permanent magic mouth has been cast upon it; whenever the tome is first touched by any (and every) creature, the mouth will appear on the front cover, and a cold, level male voice will speak in Common: Put me down, or die. There are presently no magical safeguards on the volume to back up this threat, however. The book shows no signs of age or ill use.
