Skaveling

Skavelings are ghoulish bats associated, as most ghouls are, with the Prince in Saffron. Although native to the mirrored labyrinth of Lost Carcosa, Skavelings can also be found in the Screaming Desert, where they attack airships and flying creatures, rendering even the skies above the desert hostile for exporers. Palimpsest's wall defences keep them from accessing the city itself, but they are more numerous further away from Palimpsest.   Ursula Stargazer's desert-scouting airship, the Tetrahedron, ran into Skavelings while on an expedition to map part of the Screaming Desert. Whether Skavelings themselves caused the airship to crash is as yet unknown, but either way, the wreck of the Tetrahedron set airship exploration back by a couple of decades, so it is only very recently that the Honourable Company has managed to produce airships with the same level of sophistication to resume similar mapping explorations that far out.
