Concubine
The concubines of the Second Court are the live-in partners of (almost always) male nobles. Although they are expected to attend to their partner's needs in the role of a romantic, and generally sexual, servant, they enjoy a relatively high status in the servant heirarchy, and among the non-nobles of the city, they are treated as representatives of their partner's household.
Due to their liminal nature of partner and servant, within the Noble Court, concubines are referred to, and even listed in the Peerage, by only their first name. Since they are not married, they do not take the name of their partner's noble house, but their partner is free from any ties or associations with a family from a lower class. It reinforces the fact that the noble-courtesan relationship is a contract between individuals, and the courtesan's birth family has no influence over the noble or his house.
