Commilitones Ferrasterum
A.K.A. the Order of the Iron Star (OIS), known among themselves by the epithet "Those who bring balance"
Summary
The Commilitones Ferrasterum is a military order often endorsed and led by researchers from the Merriman Consortium. It is the self-proclaimed "environmentalist world police", though several countries regard it as a rogue entity, and some UN member states have designated it as a terrorist organization.
The fundamental duty of the Commilitones Ferrasterum is to close what they see as the Metabolic Rift. They have a very ambitious timetable, and their aggressiveness has led to much alarm in the international community.
Relations
Pacificus Logistico-Industrius
While not officially affiliated, it seems to receive occasional economic support from the Pacificus Logistico-Industrius and its knights are regularly seen cooperating with PLI security, even in some cases manning PLI ships.
Operations
Commilitones Ferrasterum operations are classified into missions and crusades. Missionary work is ongoing, long-term projects usually characterized by low-level skirmishes. Crusades represent full mobility of the order and may include quickly-trained deputized supporters (insurgents) as well as collaborative mobilization of other Merriman Consortium-endorsed orders such as the Order of the Immortal Science (Knights Achronum) and the Order of St. Von Neumann (Knights Neumanis)
Missions
The Commilitones Ferrasterum are contracted as stewards for several long-term international environmental remediation projects, including:
- The Indo-Pakistan Punjab Topsoil Remediation Project
- The Andean Topsoil Remediation Project
- The Great Barrier Reef Reconstruction and Stewardship Project
- The North Sea Direct Atmospheric Capture Project
- The Continental Divide Rewilding Project (much to the consternation of the USA)
- The Nilo-Saharan Reforestation Megaproject
Crusades
A crusade may only be called by the Director of the Merriman Consortium. When this occurs, it is interpreted as a call to all who consider themselves to be a child of the Earth to protect their divine mother. Personnel mobilized in a crusade are not limited to the Commilitones Ferrasterum, though the C.F. consider themselves to be something of shepherds of the movement. Often several small, short-lived militant organizations will form in some remote regions of the world, seeking support from the Commilitones Ferrasterum, prepared to receive orders from the Merriman Consortium's Directorate
