Azure Rex

In her youth, Azure was a formidable adversary and she ran the streets with brains as well as brawn. Now in her advanced age, she is still nimble on her feet but has slowed and prefers to stay healthy through what she eats as opposed to physical activity.

Firery red hair was the trademark from which most knew the former Queen. Her earthy green eyes are still sharp as knives when they settle upon an individual.

Azure firmly believes that her family was originally from Scotland before they arrived on Pacem.

Her time spent on the streets of Earth hardened her skin and scars dot her inner arms and wrists from knife fights.

Taking a hard turn from the tradition set by her predecessor Azure preferred to wear comfortable protective clothing when serving as the Queen. It was rare that Pippo Rex asked her to dress up and when he did she made sure to go extra extravagant so that he wouldn't ask her again for a while. Now she prefers to wear simple brown leather armor as she operates within the Citadel.

Carrying the dagger her father gave her before he marched off to war to this day there have been many fights that Azure has won simply due to her mastery of the dagger and knowing every inch of its blade like the back of her hand.

Early Life

Azure Rex, formerly Bryne, originally hails from the southern tribes of the Rex Kingdom . Her father and mother were killed in The Rebellion of King Tyre by the armies led by King Maffeo Rex. A traveling band of soldiers made their way through her village and adopted her into their group. Arriving in the capital city of Earth Azure initially lived in the barracks of the soldiers until a host family was found. Only a teenager she found it very difficult to forgive the Rexiot people for the way that her family had been killed.
 

Teenage years

Azure found herself falling into the crowds that lurk beneath the surface of any city. Petty theft and pickpocketing were her main vices and she quickly became the leader of a gang of youths with no families to watch out for them. Her group would come to become quite infamous in their ward of the city and her foster parents kicked her out of the house shortly after they caught her cradling the helmet of the head of the city guard. Azure would come into contact with some of the larger crime bosses of Earth and eventually was hired by one of the noble families to steal another house's priceless artifact.  

Meeting Pippo Rex

On her mission to steal the artifact, Azure was met by a masked man who blocked her way from achieving her goals. Asking her to stay awhile and talk to her Azure did her best to draw him out of the room so she could complete her mission. However, this mysterious figure captivated her and before she was even aware of it had completely charmed her into forgetting about why she had entered into the house in the first place. The masked man invited her back to the Citadel and there they talked for days and days. Finally Azure insisted that she check on her comrades and inform them that she was still alive. The masked man relented and allowed her to leave, handing her a gold flower to bring with her to return to see him. Waiting for days before working up the courage to journey again to the Citadel when she arrived and showed the flower a butler escorted her into an empty room. Stepping in from the shadows was none other than the crown prince of the Rex Kingdom himself. Azure was utterly shell shocked and left without saying a word to the prince. After calming herself she returned to the Citadel and demanded an audience with Pippo Rex. When confronting him she asked why he had hidden his identity from her, to which he replied that he knew of her feelings about the Rexiot people. After months of secret meetings and late-night discussions Pippo Rex proposed that she join him and they rule the kingdom together. Initially saying no and then relenting and embracing him Azure elevated herself to the Queen of the entire Rex Kingdom.  

Ruling with Pippo Rex

As Queen Azure went to great lengths to repair the damage that the rebellion had caused to the southern people of the kingdom. Her husband completely trusted her to run the kingdom in the same style that he would and the two of them often only relayed what projects they were working on long after they had begun them. The people of Earth were quite suspicious of the new Queen and she faced difficulty when working with the upper class of Rexiot society. The middle and low-class people identified with her struggles and it was common for the Queen to wander through the streets of Earth flanked by only a single guard when she traveled in the slums of the city. Her efforts resulted in a huge windfall of gold for the crown as the diverse villages and towns of the kingdom were connected to the rest of the empire. Azure also fervently pushed for more avenues of opportunity for the poor of the kingdom and helped to open the first free university of the Rex Kingdom.  

After the death of Pippo Rex

Many suspected the Queen of poisoning the King and there were threats of full-scale rebellion for months after his death. Balancing raising the new prince Stoldo Rex, running the kingdom, and trying to find the killer of her husband pushed Azure to the brink of madness. The years where she was the lone regent of the Rex Kingdom were some of the most difficult years for the Rexiot people. The grief of losing Pippo Rex never really faded and once Stoldo Rex was old enough to rule the kingdom Azure gratefully stepped away from the politics of the kingdom.  

Current Day

Azure still lives in the Citadel and even at her advanced age has the agileness to avoid anyone she doesn't wish to interact with. Commanding the spy network of the kingdom keeps her occupied. Many of the top spies know her true objective is to find out who was responsible for the death of her beloved Pippo Rex. She quietly advises King Stoldo Rex but prefers that she stay in the shadows of the government. Her bright red hair has yet to fade to silver and the intense fire to get justice for Pippo Rex keeps her motivated as a member of the royal family.

Once she became Queen her husband's insatiable desire for more knowledge drove her to begin looking for her own way to improve her skills and this landed her in the Spymaster role she now serves in.

The Queen Mother keeps much of the details of her past quiet.

Serving as Queen Azure's proudest achievement was opening the first free university in the whole of the Rex Kingdom. She relentlessly strove to ensure that no other people would have to struggle as she had to when she was young. Her improvement of the slums of Earth was also something that she was endlessly proud of even if it received far less publicity than the rest of her accomplishments. The current spy system that the kingdom now employs was entirely orchestrated by her and has become an invaluable tool for King Stoldo Rex.

Azure's grief at not being able to protect her beloved Pippo Rex still haunts her to this day. She is now overly protective of everyone she holds dear. As the spymaster of the Rex Kingdom she now uses her influence to ensure to keep agents on all royal family members.

The Queen Mother prefers not to speak of her childhood not out of shame but because much of her gang still roam free within the walls of Earth and she is reluctant to put them in danger. Much of her past she wears as a mark of pride as she wouldn't be the person she is now without going through those times. However, she is still quite hesitant to trust native Rexiots and feels more at home in the slums than in the Citadel.

Highly aware of dangerous situations and excellent at judging the threat level of other people Azure keeps her circle of friends small. She also carries many of the characteristics of her life as a thief with her and values loyalty over all other traits.

Believing that all people will betray their friends at the first chance to improve their own standing Azure prefers to ensure those around her are unwaveringly loyal. Many of the royal guards who protect her are recruited straight out of the slums where she identified their potential. She does her best to ensure that those who are deserving of recognition are rewarded for their efforts for the crown. Azure also bears a heavy resentment against noble Rexiot families and is quite content to avoid them altogether.

Those who break her trust or joke about the death of Pippo Rex are instantly excommunicated in her mind and removed from interacting with the Queen Mother

Her current motivation is two-fold. Protect her family and the people they love at all costs. At the same time, she is desperate to discover any information about the murder of the late king Pippo Rex and she dedicates hours upon hours to tracking down every lead she can find about what happened to him.

Few people in the kingdom are more skilled with daggers than the Queen Mother, she is however almost useless with every other type of weapon.

Few people are as thorough in their research as the Queen Mother. Before making any move she seriously considers as many possible outcomes as she can and then tries to minimize all negative consequences to the maximum amount possible.

She is quick to threaten violence to those she sees as threats to the things she cares about.

No one is really sure at how much wealth the Queen Mother has ferreted away. She is known to be extremely frugal with her funds and rarely spends anything on herself. Her functioning wealth is nearly limitless due to the king's reliance on her for spying throughout the world. As far as many know she will go to the grave with quite a sizable fortune hidden away within the Citadel.
