About: The Nightmare Inn
The inn where it all starts.
A pretty inn in some backwater place, usually filled to the brim with well-paying customers and so often stranger you should not look in the eye.
Despite its foreboding name, it's quite a pleasant place. Or is it? In such a small town as this, there's always rumours about what's really going on behind the bar.
Purpose / Function
It was originally (and still is) a small inn to accompany a small town. Food and drinks are served the entire day, and in the evening usually a local bard or comedian or some scholar will show up as entertainment. Then at night, there are five rooms available plus the stables.
Alterations
The building is now over fifty years old, so there have been some renovations. For example, ten years into the business, they decided that three rooms weren't enough and decided to expand so that there's five now. After another five years though, the wooden building somehow caught fire and burnt entirely to the ground. The owners then sold the land, but the next invested a lot of money to rebuild the inn. From then on it was built entirely of stone and bricks, quite novel for such a village.
Architecture
Nowadays everything is made of stone to prevent the disaster of the previous inn. The walls are made of brick and are adorned with paintings and various other decorations, such as animal skulls. The floor too is made of stone, namely black tiles made of local rocks. Even the stairs are made of stone.
History
About fifty years ago a couple decided to turn their house into an inn instead to make profits. Despite the fact that the village is quite desolated, their business managed to thrive. Every night the inn was filled to the brink with locals and exotic travellers alike, who then spread good word about the inn and attracted more customers.
After fifteen years, however, their business and inn both went up in flames, as somehow the building burnt down. The owners then sold the land and left town, never to be seen or heard of again.
The new owners then rebuilt the inn in the same style from the ground up, but with a little bit of a twist. Where everything had been made of wood before, was now replaced by stone, to prevent the past tragedy from repeating. It almost seemed like they were warned, or did they simply learn from the past?
