About: Portals

Not per se the most fanciful, but they are quite quick and a lot more comfortable than teleportation pods. Portals are magical doors and/or pathways created by magicians through the consumption of mana. The spell manifests as a door, which one can go through to arrive at a destination. That destination can be chosen beforehand or during the travel.   The Portals work like this: the magician casts the spell and a magical door is created. As long as the magician casts the spell, people can use the door. Once opened, the body disintegrates into separate atoms. This sounds quite unpleasant, but really it's not, since it's a magical spell. It merely tickles. While the magician('s soul) is still channelling the spell, the atoms are teleported to the destination in a matter of seconds, or they're left to wander the void, where they can discover other Portals (such as permanent Portals) and rematerialize there. You may be thinking how the body can manoeuvre in the void, if the brain is completely separated. This too is done through magic. See, when atoms part, the essence of the brain parts too, however, since this is a metaphysical thing, it does not need to be cut into pieces to travel, so it is kept whole. With enough willpower of this essence (A.K.A. the soul), one is able to navigate the void and manipulate it so, that the body's atoms go where the soul does.
Price
It only costs mana. Seeing as it's quite an intense spell, it costs quite a bit of energy, for some more than for others.
Rarity
It's not a rare spell, in fact, it is very often taught in the Mage's Colleges, though it can be hard to pull off.
Length
The door's standard width is two metres, but it can be expanded.
Height
The door's standard height is three metres, but it can be expanded.
Weight

Speed
The speed of light.
