Temple of Kandetreath

Purpose / Function

The Temple of Kandetreath is primarily a place for worshipping the Goddess of Peaceful Death and hosting funerary rites. Some temples have built annexes to conduct study and research on the Queen of Shadows while others who celebrate her cyclical nature have added small rooms for private wedding rites.

Alterations

The original blueprints for a Temple of Kandetreath show a long narrow room with benches for mourners to be seated at during last rites. At the far end of the hall is a slightly raised dais with an altar where offerings are made and priesten of Kandetreath can give sermons. Connected to this worship room are dorms and a kitchen for those seeking shelter and clergy of the Church of the Purple Rose. A garden with a compost bin is found outside the kitchen, and a handful of small rooms for individual prayer fill the remaining space and give visual balance to the structure. Additionally, secret doors, hidden rooms, tunnels, and escapes are common within a Temple of Kandetreath though it will never be found on a blueprint.

"Normal" alterations to these blueprints include converting individual prayer rooms to be private wedding rite rooms, adding annexes connected to the dorms and worship room, and even relocating the kitchen to a separate building on the grounds so that the connected space may be used for something else. Whether or not these alterations should be allowed can be a subject of debate, but so long as it provides benefits to that temple and its community it's largely left alone.

History

The first Temple of Kandetreath was built in 4 EOR, with others popping up in various towns and cities soon after. Plans for the temple were recorded as being drafted as early as 295 U though the ongoing war prevented her first followers from being able to act on these drafts. Over the years, the blueprints for the Maiden of Death's temple became easily accessible to any seeking to build one in her honor. Encouragement is provided though to get the would-be builders to add their own twists and secrets not shown on the base blueprints.
