Summer Camp Prep 2025 - Nourishment
Week 1: Nourishment!
Assignment 1
Think about ways the theme of Nourishment affects your world. Do people generally have what they need? What happens when they don’t?As I go through the process of rewriting my continents and countries, nourishment is a factor that weighs heavily on my mind. Are the countries prosperous? Is there war, famine, or disease? I decided that pre-Undoing, while there might be some conflict brewing, the countries are all prosperous and happy. Post-Undoing I imagine that things are a bit more established and settled again so some countries are prospering while others are struggling. In my starting setting of Malquos the country is fairly prosperous but there is trouble brewing on the horizon. When people are lacking in their needs, it can quickly turn hostile resulting in war and disease spreading like ink spilled on parchment. I think the primary form of nourishment I'm concerned with is the most basic, food of course. But I think it's fun to consider how gods are nourished. Caramip is nourished through the warmth of the hearth and the connection between people. Hevolux is nourished through inspiration, creativity, and the birth of new ideas and inventions. Kandetreath is nourished by the cycle of decay, death, rebirth, and growth.
Assignment 2
Why am I worldbuilding in the first place? Why am I building this world specifically? Am I still serving those motivations? Am I focusing on things that will help me achieve what I want to achieve? Which area of my world do I want to focus on? (Ex: geographical, conceptual, civilization, history)I'm worldbuilding because it brings me joy, I like the process of creating my world even when it is overwhelming and frustrating. I started Oxerune because back when I was in middle school I started dreaming up what my world would look like but ultimately left my dream behind believing it to be a fool's errand. Then I discovered the World Anvil community and fell in love with it and wanted to pursue it again. It's gone through revisions and changes and been remade. Many things are different compared to where I started. I think I am still serving those motivations. It's fun and I'm not really worried about how other people view it, I write for my own joy and if someone else likes it, great! But it isn't about them. Will people want to know about the years before the story? Maybe not, but it's still fun for me to do it. My goals are kind of fluid so I don't think there's anything specific to focus on, but participating in World Anvil official and unofficial challenges inspires me to keep writing so I suppose I am. I think I'm going to focus on developing the modern continents and countries this Summer Camp and I think it'll be very fun. Lastly, I'm aiming for at least gold this year but I'm hoping I can succeed in diamond. I just want to have a goal that feels achievable so I don't get down on myself.
