Mountain Dwarves

Mountain dwarves once lived in the Basalt Citadel alongside what would become the magma dwarves and wandering dwarves. After the siege by hellbeasts from 208 U to 287 U and the rise of Grüghil Magmabane, a majority of dwarves felt uncomfortable living near a trickle of liquid hellfire, and even more uncomfortable at the idea of actively using such a substance. From this majority came the mountain dwarves and wandering dwarves. While wandering dwarves would choose to endlessly be on the move, fearing another disaster if they ever stopped in one place for too long, mountain dwarves couldn't bear to leave the cavernous halls of mountain homes. Instead they spread across the world to whatever mountain ranges they could settle in, suitably far from their foolish but still loved magma dwarf brethren. Though not as widespread or wandering as their aptly named brethren, mountain dwarves spread across the world finding cozy mountain caves to call home with a bit of building and decorating.

Culture

Funerary and Memorial customs

For funerals it is customary for dwarven hair clasps of any variety to be traded out for simplistic iron or black dyed fasteners. This custom is traced back to a rather insensitive showing by a young noble lady who although meant well was rather tasteless. To prevent such a thing from happening again due to a lackluster education on etiquette, it was decided that everyone wearing hair fasteners to a funeral would wear iron or black fabric ones instead. If they did not come with them they would be handed out upon their arrival.

Ideals

Gender Ideals

Like magma and wandering dwarves, mountain dwarves don't have a strict binary for gender. A dwarf's gender may be changed as often as they wish simply by changing the hair adornments used. Thicker hair clasps are used to indicate a masculine gender while thinner hair clasps are used to indicate a feminine gender. If a dwarf doesn't identify with either, then they can wear their hair tied with a strip of cloth that matches the color of their hair.
