Blessing of the Burning Plains

The Blessing of the Burning Plains is said to be received by consuming the meat of the mythical scoric viper. Although largely considered a fairytale more than reality, the Blessing of the Burning Plains has been received by some during the events of the Undoing. When the flame greatwyrm who's death spawned the scoric vipers still lived, she offered her blessing to those who earned her favor to aid in the fight against the Sectors.

Originally the only way to obtain the Blessing of the Burning Plains was to receive the favor of the flame greatwyrm herself. While there were those who diverted from the war in the hopes of worshipping her and making offerings to try and get the blessing, they were rarely the ones who received the Lady's blessing. Rather, those who showed great courage in battle or achieved a feat for the sake of others were the ones who received her blessing. Those who achieved a great victory over the demons from the Sectors were also more likely to receive the Scourge of Demons' blessing.

In the current age with the Lady of the Burning Plains long since returning to the eternal fires, it is widely believed to be impossible to receive a true Blessing of the Burning Plains. However, those that believe in the existence of scoric vipers and the powers their meat is said to grant believe that the Blessing of the Burning Plains is still possible to obtain. It's said that finding the resting place of the Scourge of Demons and the scoric vipers that live there is the first step. Next it's said one must catch and consume a scoric viper. Some say it must be consumed raw, some say it can only be cooked over a fire, and others say one may prepare it however one desires. After consumption one allegedly receives the blessing.

A true Blessing of the Burning Plains grants the blessed with invulnerability to fire, increased dexterity and strength, and the ability to cast low-level fire spells at will. It is a powerful blessing that helped turn the tides against the Sectors during the final battles of the Undoing.

A scoric viper Blessing of the Burning Plains is said to grant the blessed with invulnerability to fire, increased dexterity, the ability to breathe fire, and—depending on who tells the story—the ability to cast any fire spell at will, poison resistance or immunity, and an improved palate.

It's common for imitations of the Blessing of the Burning Plains to be created. While none so far has matched the strength of the true blessing, many create elaborate enchanted dishes trying to recreate it. These dishes often imbue the consumer with some level of fire resistance and increased dexterity and strength. The dishes are rarely consistent and even following the same recipe they can vary in potency.
