SEP field generator
A Somebody Else's Problem(SEP) field is a small, but powerful perception-altering field that renders anything inside of it utterly unremarkable, and making those who do see the shrouded object(s) promptly decide it's somebody else's problem, shrug, and walk away. SEP generators can be carried on a person as a bulky collar or small backpack. Like most magical artifacts, it emits an almost electric buzzing sensation when active. 'Comfort' models offer insulation against this feeling. Due to the power of SEP fields, they require high amounts of energy. The magical energy for SEP fields is stored in gemstones. It's more common to use many small stones than a few big ones, since a crack or flaw in the stone can result in energy leaking or cracks in the illusion.
SEP fields are not perfect. People who are actively looking for the extraordinary, who have training in seeing through illusions, or even those caught by surprise can see through a SEP field.
Effect
"[A SEP field] utilises a person's natural tendency to ignore things they don't easily accept, like, for example, aliens at a cricket match. Any object around which an S.E.P. is applied will cease to be noticed, because any problems one may have understanding it (and therefore accepting its existence) become Somebody Else's Problem. An object becomes not so much invisible as unnoticed.
A perfect example of this would be a ship covered in a SEP field at a cricket match. A starship taking the appearance of a large pink elephant is ideal because you can see it, yet it is so inconceivable, your mind can't accept it. Therefore it can't exist, thus ignoring it comes naturally.
A S.E.P. can work in much the same way in dangerous or uninhabitable environments. Any problem which may present itself to a person inside an S.E.P. (such as not being able to breathe, due to a lack of atmosphere) will become Somebody Else's Problem.

While perception filters have been around for over 200 years, the modern SEP field generator was invented by Douglas Adams in 1982.
