Healing disorders
Vampires have fantastic healing capabilities; they can recover from bullet wounds in seconds and regrow entire limbs within days. But this extreme healing doesn't always work out well. The basic way healing works is by regrowing the lost tissues until they meet the tissues they're expected to meet. But if they're positioned in a way that they never meet the expected tissues, they'll just... keep on growing. The most obvious cases of this are when misaligned broken bones grow so far they pierce the skin. A vampire may also grow partial body parts, such as having a finger that splits into two fingers. This can impair the function of those body parts, since the bones and muscles weren't built to work like that.
A rather extreme healing disorder is called 'explosive bone growth', or EBG for short. It occurs when a bone shatters, and all the shards heal out in all directions.
Causes
Healing disorders are caused by vampire healing overcompensating for injury and growing too much tissue.
Symptoms
Early symptoms of healing disorders are odd masses or discomfort around previous injuries. Internal healing disorders may be difficult to spot, but bloating or lumps can be a sign that ruptured organs are healing too much.
Treatment
Healing disorders are treated with surgery. Affected body parts may be amputated, but it's more common to simply remove the excess tissue and properly set the body part.
Prevention
Healing disorders can be prevented by properly setting wounds; making sure broken bones are aligned properly and pinching broken skin back together.
Cultural Reception
Healing disorders are viewed in much the same way as scars; some think they're ugly and unsightly, and some think they're awesome tokens of battles past. Some vampires may choose not to entirely resolve the issue, instead trimming down the growth when it becomes a hindrance.
