Batavia
One of the most crucial districts of the Riverplex, Batavia formerly was the Nijmeegse Havendistrict. Located at the connection of the Maas-Waal Canal and the Waal, Batavia spans all the docks of what used to be Nijmegen, before it merged with other municipalities into the Riverplex. At its southern tip it connects with ER5, which leads from Europort to the Rhine-Ruhr-Megaplex.
When the Toxic Tide devastated all rivers of the Low Countries, the Waal managed to recover and Nijmegen profited greatly. Meanwhile, the Nederrijn and IJssel are lost causes, still heavily crippled by sludge. Furthermore, the ER5 also boosted the economy. Nijmegen ended up as a vital crossroads, turning itself into the supply vein of the entire eastern part of the United Netherlands.
Even after the Riverplex was formed, Batavia kept its primary position. Ships that supply the eastern part of the UNL, or obtain their cargo from there, attend the Batavian ports to load and unload. Truck convoys pass through as well, with manned convoys often choosing Batavia as a place to spend the night. Unmanned convoys just pass by, though they often refuel before continuing.
