Out-of-Plane

Millennia in the future, when Old Earth has become a nostalgic tourist destination for the rich and powerful of the Colonies and Stations, true wealth and influence are defined by the Lords and Ladies of Out-of-Plane. These genetically gifted individuals possess the nearly magical ability to circumvent ordinary Time and Space, making interstellar travel and communication feasible. This contortion of Einsteinian Physical Reality is called Out-of-Plane, indicating that the non-space is most likely 5th dimensional, but certainly not in the same "plane" as the three familiar dimensions. To prevent excessive inbreeding amongst this rarified population, Colonies and Stations compete to produce the best Bride Candidates, and comparable young men although they are, for some archaic reason, worth fewer trade concessions and monetary incentives, to match with the young Elite of Out-of-Plane.
