Script-Weaver's Lament

Death is only the beginning, remember their lives

History

After the first binding, the magic connecting spineweavers to the Motherbook strengthened. Offering no need for spineweavers to cultivate food, however clothing and flax was a different story. Flax became one of the most abundant resources in the spineweavers' arsenal offering the nomadic group quick and easy harvests with minimal interaction. The Spineweavers then developed techniques and processes to turn flax into linen and clothes. Offering up one of the most important assets to trade.

Ritual

For the Script-weavers Lament, the practice begins at the first inkling of a seed. As the flax plant germinates and grows it is given a specific purpose. As many flax seeds go into making the mourning cloth, groups of seeds are blessed at the same time. Typically these blessings are specific to the mourner and the lost one. Some include; wishes for remembrance, tales of heroics, stories of mentoring and compassion, et cetera. Once the flax is harvested the mourner(s) oversee the transportation of the flax to a mourning loom in which the flax is turned into linen. In this process specific stories and tales are told about the lost one, imbuing the linen with protective magic and the history and soul of the deceased. This linen is used in multiple differing ways most commonly either as a burial shroud or turned into a mourning cloak. Once the linen has a set purpose the mourners will then begin the script-weaving, a process in which the cloth is taken and embordered with sigils and runes mirroring those of the deceased. If a mourning cloak is made then the mourner will wear it until such a time as the magic has faded and the mourner is no longer grieving.
