Tarnap

Tarnap is a round leafed flowerless plant. It is used in the production of tarn-blue, a dark blue dye.  

Habitat

Tarnap is an aquatic plant, most often found in marshes and wetlands. It can be cultivated in drier soils, but it has to be watered regularly.  

Usage

 

Tarn-blue

Tarn-blue is a dye that was already used in ancient times. Originally traded from the northern regions of Borsa, it was eventually introduced across the Imelian continent. Once discovered that the plant could be cultivated on dry ground, if watered regularly, it started seeing industrial cultivation. Due to the ease and relative low cost of the whole process, it eventually destroyed demand for cobalt as dyeing agent.  

Medicinal use

The sap extracted from the plant has mild anti-inflammatory properties. It's frequently used to alivate the itiching or stinging sensation of insect bites. The leave  

Culinary use

The leaves are edible, but due to their bitterness they see relative rare use. The roots however are used in the preperation of Lembic Tea, a hot beverage popular among the Erami.  

Pelinas Coat Of Arms

  The leaf of the plant is also feature on the Pelinas coat of arms. The Pelinas are one of the riches families in Roportass and claim to be the first family that started the trade of it between Borsa and Imelia.  

Geographic Origin and Distribution

  Originally only found in the northern wetlands of the Borscan continent, it eventually saw its introduction across the Imelian and Esterian ones.
