Everything has its time and all stories come to an end, making room for either a new story or a final demise. Perhaps there is a sequel, or perhaps the story makes way for a completely different tale. The ending might be underwhelming, a cliffhanger that is but a set-up for what is to come, the crescendo of a drama, or the zenith of an existence. But no matter the story, there always is the question on how it then wraps up, what happened to our favourite characters as the pages come to an end. Enter the epilogue.
And one must remember, stories are everything to the Fae. They build their power from following the story they committed to. Those who chose their story poorly, will oft find themselves weakening as they find it impossible to follow the threads they spun, all the while battered by their plotholes. Those who chose well, find their power increasing to a point that even when they change their story, they carry that strength with them. But even then, they too feel the need to wrap up their story with a nice ribbon around it.
But if an end is unobserved, has it truly ended? Is there any value to leaving quietly, without any huff or joy? Nay. Thus, the Epilogue Party exists. A term so crucial that if a Fae utters it carelessly, their power might express in the taste of the word on their lips, tingling down your ears. The symbol of an end and a new beginning. Where a Fae invites the oft-unwilling participants to their tale, celebrates or mourns the ending of a chapter of their life, then moves on with a clean break afterwards.
So next time someone invites you to their sabbatical party, their graduation, their housewarming, celebrating their promotion or new job? Ask yourself, is there anything suspicious about their personality? Do they talk in riddles, is there a subtle hint of a smug smile they are suppressing, or a sadness they are hiding due to having to axe a failing tale? Are any of the guests mysterious, as if they mayhaps are writers of their own tales, there to celebrate the publication of one of their own? Is this but a party, or an Epilogue?
Then just breath out and let go of your concerns and doubts. After all, Fae oft throw the best parties. So why would you drown yourself in suspicion, when you can swim in joy instead?— The Guide To All Things Fae
