Within the kingdom of despair, a place we refuse to name as its ruler doesn't deserve that right, every year dozens participate in its Challenges. To identify them, they all receive a ring. Some may see it as a symbol. Others, especially the challengers, know it is a mark. The ring is made from cold iron plated with blessed silver, so that no Fae or vampire can get their hands on it. Each year has its own ring, so challengers may keep theirs, for the reputation it provides. Few of those live long, as vampires tend to take its very existence as an affront.
