Hlíffjall

Hlíffjall, or Guard Mountain, is a formidable mountain range that encircles the Rúnvatn lake. The mountains are a natural barrier, with steep cliffs and treacherous terrain making them difficult to traverse. The easiest way through the mountains is by boat, sailing around the lake.   The climate in the Hlíffjall Mountains is cool and often foggy. The higher elevations are covered in snow for much of the year, while the lower slopes are home to dense forests. The flora of the mountains is hardy, with many plants adapted to the cold and rocky conditions. Alpine flowers can be found blooming in the summer months, while coniferous trees dominate the lower slopes.   The fauna of the Hlíffjall Mountains is also diverse. The mountains are home to a variety of wildlife, including deer, bears, and wolves. Eagles and other birds of prey can be found soaring above the peaks.   According to local legends, there are rumored halls carved deep into the mountainside, built by the servants of dragons and great cats. These halls are said to contain hidden treasures and ancient artifacts. However, the exact location of these halls is a mystery, and many believe that they are guarded by dangerous creatures. Few who go looking for them, ever return.
