Ydwen Efreet
While Rabiah is home to dozes of varieties of genies, most of them efreet and djinn, the majority have existed for thousands of years, and can be found on other worlds, if not quite easily and freely as they appear on Rabiah. This marks the ydwen efreet then, of which there are only a few hundred, and an exceptionally strange and rare circumstance.
Born from Dragon's Fire Genies are created on the Elemental Planes, born fully formed from the intense elemental energies found there, and each is infused with an unending elemental spirit. Ydwen efreet are an exception to this rule, born on Rabiah in a single event, whose happening was carefully recorded by witnesses and passed down since by the ydwen efreet themselves. A great dragon, pale and almost ghostly in its appearance, suddenly manifested in the sky above the city of Bassorah, in the middle of battle with a enormous demon. They fought for some time, as the dragon breathed fire which flickered in and out of sight, burned intensely at all times. Suddenly both disappeared again, as quickly as they had come, leaving behind the ruins of several city blocks. But where the dragon's fire burned, the ydwen efreet began to form, and were born into the world.
The Temple of the Unseen Because of the unusual circumstances of their creation, the ydwen efreet were immediately distrusted, and several of their number killed in the chaos. But when they fell, they were soon reborn from the ghostly flames that first manifested them. As order was reestablished, the ydwen efreet slowly earned the trust of the people of Bassorah, integrating themselves into the city as surly as if they were native-born residents. The ydwen helped rebuild the ruins, and in the midst of it, created for themselves a shrine to their mysterious progenitor, known as the Temple of the Unseen. Within its walls burn seven eternal fires, each of them invisible to the naked eye, which the ydwen efreet call the Flames of Birth, and others refer to as the Flames of the Unseen.
Outcasts of their Kind When a genie dies, its eternal spirit returns to the Elemental Plane on which it was first created, slowly reborn in the same manner and location it first came into existence. Only in its true home can the eternal spirit which powers a genie, their closes equivalent to a soul, be permanently destroyed. It is a punishment and fate reserved only for the greatest criminals of their societies. The ydwen efreet, when they die, do not return to the Elemental Planes, and unlike other genies, have no easy manes of traveling there, having to rely on the same magics other races use. Instead, if a ydwen efreet dies, it returns to the Flames of the Unseen, and from it they are reborn, no matter where they were upon their death. This strangeness makes them pariahs, and other genies go to great lengths to exclude and avoid the ydwen efreet.
