Underworld Harpy

The Therosian stories of harpies, as beautiful creatures with a voice so alluring no man could possibly resist it, apply only to those found on Theros' surface. In the underworld, the land of the dead beneath the ground, it's a different story. The harpies that live in the Underworld were created by the Erebos in the shape of those above. But while the harpies of the surface share traits of songbirds and magpies, the harpies of the Underworld are reminiscent of carrion-feeders like vultures and crows. And like the birds from which they take their shape, they are always hungry for meat.   Torturers of the Dead Like his other monsters, Erebos created the underworld harpies to guard his realm, keeping intruders out and the dead inside. The harpies also serve to torment the souls of the dead who were sentenced to punishment for a life of crime- battering them with their claws and talons, and tormenting them with their infernal voices.   Unlike their sisters in the overworld, these harpies have no need for pretty voices to lure sailors to their death. Instead of milk and hone, their voices are like a cacophony of knives and nails, which cut to the quirk and chill the soul. Even the dead have no safety from their siren song, which causes only panic and frenzy.
