Omenspeaker

For most Therosians, the future is an impenetrable mystery, a veiled question whose horizons will forever remain unknown. A lucky few, however, are chosen by the gods at birth to act as seers-able to see the world of the gods, and communicate directly with the divine, as well as take a limited glimpse at the web of destiny that connects the events of the past, present, and future.   Most seers are blessed by a single god, and the information they receive is limited to what their patron chooses to reveal. But some seers are blessed in a different way, their access to the web of destiny not constrained by a single god. Known as omenspeakers, they act as outlets for all of the divine powers, able to receive visions from an god that chooses to grant them. But in return for this great power, their insight into the events they perceive is limited. The words they speak during their visions fly from their memory just as they leave their lips, and the sights they behold vanish from their minds as if they had seen them in a dream.   Acting as an omenspeaker is a heavy burden to bear, as the visions they receive are usually of dire consequence. While the process for a normal seer is to ask questions of their god, and hope for an answer, an omenspeaker has no control over when their visions arrive. The gods themselves choose when to share information through an omenspeaker, whether they are ready for it or not. Because of this, most omenspeakers are given a life of luxury, kept close by the rulers of the cities and poleis in case of danger. But like a caged bird, this treatment keeps their lives restricted as well, unable to travel where they wish or do what they want, in the even that a vision might go unrecorded.
