Karametra’s Acolyte

As the god of harvests, Karametra holds a special connection to the people of Theros. Without the guidance of Karametra, the people of Theros would not have crops, relying only on hunting and gathering to fill their plates. Giving humans the secret of farming earned Karametra allies and enemies alike among the other gods, but it also cemented her position as one of the most worshipped gods of the pantheon.   Even today, hundreds of years after she gave away the secret of farming, Karametra is still worshipped in every polis across Theros. Her greatest bastion of support is in Setessa- ironically also a major place of worship of Nylea, the god of the hunt. In Setessa, while Nylea is seen as a defender, keeping the natural order and guarding the lands around Setessa, Karametra is seen as a bringer of life, and her worshippers as an extension of her love and mercy.   Farmers, Doctors, Harvesters, Leaders The acolytes of Karametra serve many roles in Setessa. They guide the process of farming in all four seasons, informing the people of the city what must be planted in the spring, what must be harvested in the summer, what grows best in the autumn, and what keeps well in the winter. When not tending to the fields, the acolytes tend to the people of Setessa, watching over them to make sure they are healthy, and doing what they can to mend wounds where they happen. Their role is essential to keeping Setessa running, and just as the Temple of Karametra is at the heart of the city, the acolytes can be seen as the heart of its people.   The Council of Warriors that lead Setessa, though they worship Nylea for the strength and courage to fight, still belong wholely to Karametra. It is to the god of harvests that the Council of Warriors looks to when they seek wisdom, the most important quality to lead. The head of the Council, currently the revered warrior Anthousa, is not only the ruler and greatest hunter of Setessa, but also once served as one of Karametra's acolytes. In fact, in the history of Setessa, only two of the COuncil's leaders have ever reached the position without first serving as an acolyte. While the Council of Warriors may be the mortal rulers of Setessa, there is no denying that it is the acolytes who keep the city from falling apart.
