Junun Efreet
After the loss of their position of power on Rabiah, the worldview for many djinn was turned entirely upside-down at the thought they could be defeated by mortals. Many faced this paradigm threat by seeking new ways of life, abandoning their historic roots by doing so. A large many of these were the efreet, whose inherently independent and chaotic nature pushed them in droves to adopt new lifestyles. And while some sought peach of mind, others looked for greater sources of power, by and means necessary.
Bow to Power During their time on Rabiah, some efreet were introduced to the fiery chaos of demons, seeing in them a kind of kinship. The junun efreet are those who, after turning from their traditions, sought out these darker forces. Seeking vengeance against those who wronged them, and with little other choice, the junun efreet sighed away their freedom in demonic pacts for power.
A Dire Fine Print Though the deals they have made with the demons turn their efreeti flames to hellfire, maintaining this power requires total subservience to their demonic masters, as well as bargaining with their own lives. Junun efreet must provide their unholy patrons with a steady stream of mortal souls, with their own on the line as collateral. In the beginning, when humans were still picking up the scattered pieces of their societies and trying to reorganize after their victory, these costs were an easy price to pay. But as human resistance has become more organized, the junun efreeti find greater difficulty in paying their debts. And with each junun efreet whose soul is lost, their hopes of eventually reclaiming their former glory move further from their reach.
