Insectile Aberration
When faced with a question that no one has ever asked before, only one thing is certain- there is an answer, somewhere. Finding it might take weeks, or even years, but it can be found. Most of the time discovering the answer will require sacrifice. Sometimes, it will require sacrificing what makes you human.
Going Beyond the Threshold Losing what makes you human isn't always the terrifying process one might think it is. The bite of a vampire is scary and painful, but once reborn some find it opens a world of new sensations. Other transformations might have less beautiful results, but what they revel to the world is no less important.
The Sweet Sting of Success Years ago, a young doctor spent his life in renown, curing patients of debilitating illnesses and mending what was broken. His knowledge let him take poisonous plants and toxic venom's, and turn them helpful into tinctures and potions. He was beloved by his town, and even people from miles away came to ask for his aid. But like everyone, he had his secrets, and after-hours at his clinic, he lived a double-life. One night, the doctor's neighbors reported strange buzzing sound, and the appearance of a large insect flying into the night. When the Church cathars came knocking at the clinic door, they found the abandoned basement, lined with steel cages all filled with the mutated remains of failed experiments, and in one corner of the ceilings, and wispy strands of a single enormous cocoon.
Secrets Spread like Gossip During the Church's official investigation, word spread to the publid of what had happened, and scandal erupted. In the course of the investigation, the doctor's final notes and remaining specimens disappeared. The Church of Avacyn's official investigation is still open, even though the original cathar investigators have long since moved on. But every few yeas, a new lead pops up, when remote backwater village files their own report on a strange, giant insect, bursting from an otherwise innocuous house, only to never be seen again.
