Hundred-Handed One
Just as the humans of Theros were created by the gods to worship their power, the giants were birthed by the Titans to act as their servants. When the gods rose up and cast down the Titans, sealing them away in the Underworld, many of their children were imprisoned with them. The giants that managed to escape fled to the furthest reaches of Theros, the darkest forests and deepest oceans, beyond even the reach of the gods.
When the time came to retreat, some of these giants chose instead to travel through the mountains, deep into the caves that led to the heart of the world. There they could live as close as possible to their former masters, and plot the far-away day when they could take their revenge.
Children of Greed The giants which fled to the caverns slowly mutated, down in the darkness and silence, mastering powerful dark magic even as their eyes slowly grew blind. Finally, after hundreds of years, came the birth of the hundred-handed ones. These giants are believed to be a blessing from the Erna, the titan mother of greed. Under their leadership, the stone giants returned to Theros' surface, seeking to remake a place for themselves, unite the remaining giants in leadership, and free their titanic ancestors.
Unfortunately for them, the world above had changed far more than they knew. The humans of Theros had spread across the surface, growing in number and establishing the fortified cities called polies. They had built machines for war, tamed powerful beasts, and mastered magic gifted by the gods. What was intended to be an uprising of giants was ended almost before it could begin, and the armies of Akros and Setessa decimated the stone giants in just a few battles. Retreating back to their caves, the giants were left with no choice but to reformulate their plans.
Defenders of Anger In the war against Setessa and Akros, though they had trampled great swaths of the human armies, many of the hundred-handed ones had fallen all the same. A population once views as a blessing now numbered only a few dozen. Left disillusioned and without purpose, while the other stone giants fled to their caves, the hundred-handed ones chose instead to remain about the ground.
There, they keep watch over the entrances to the home of the stone giants. They defend their homes from trespass, killing any human they find in the belief that they still seek to exterminate the giants. In truth, their failed war happened several centuries ago, and giants are a rarity to humans, meant to be killed when seen but otherwise not a concern. Since the war, not a single hundred-handed one has been born, but more die every decade, leading many stone giants to believe they've lost Erna's favor once more.
