Ghave, Guru of Spores

In the aftermath of a magical cataclysm, the land of Drakkus was subject to a series of intense monsoons, leaving the people with flooded fields and no way to feed themselves. In their struggle for survival, the people of Drakkus turned towards the newly sprouted fungal forests, a result of the lingering magic on the earth. Here they found a living, breathing food source- the fungal people known as the myconids, and the herd-like creatures known as the saprolings. Though the people of Drakkus saw the myconids as the solution to their problem, the myconids saw the Drakkusians as savage raiders, villains consuming their people after each battle. As the myconids fell one after another to the blades and flames of the Drakkusians, the savior known as Ghave rose among them, a mystical leader whose hold over nature could grant the myconids the strength to fight back, and win.   Born of Nature and Born Again Ghave, known by the title Guru of Spores, is a living fungus just like the myconids, but with a darker intellect lurking behind its glowing eyes. Ghave is the reincarnated spirit of a powerful arch druid known as Yula, who died attempting to defend the forests of Drakkus from the magical cataclysm that consumed the rest of the world. Yula had always having admired fungus for its incredible power to grow, thrive, and recover from almost any circumstances, seeing a beauty where others saw only mold. Yula believed that by tuning the forest of Drakkus into a single fungus, she could protect the balance of nature that the magical cataclysm threatened. So in a massive effort of magic, as torrential energy threatened to flatten the forest around her, Yula cast a spell which suffused every living thing in the forest, plant and animal, with the spores that would keep them alive. But Yula, for her efforts, was overwhelmed and killed, her body left as mulch for the forest she died to protect.   Reborn Defense Though her body was consumed, Yula's spirit lived on through the spores she created, her soul captured in every aspect of fungal forest. Not only able to survive, the forest thrived in its new form, quickly spreading as the remnants of Yula's soul gave way to the myconids. Connected by an invisible thread that ran through each of them, the myconids took to taming and harvesting the saprolings, the fungal remnants of the animals that once wandered the forest. But after only a short time, the Drakkusians discovered the myconids and set to enslaving them, hoping to use the myconids as food to survive the wasteland created after the cataclysm. But the soul of Yula, still present in the forest, responded to these attacks, forming a new body from the spores and mold and of the forest floor. Ghave, born without the mind or memories of Yula, felt only the cumplusion to defend the myconid people. With a connection to all the forests, Ghave draws upon incredible nature magic, and used this to empower the myconids, organizing them in resistance to the Drakkusians.   Unending Tide of Fungus With Ghave's help, the myconids quickly tuned the tide, using strange mutations to spread quickly and overwhelm the Drakkusian army. Eventually the Drakkusians were turned from the fungal forest entirely, forced to retreat to their desolated home. Though their purpose was complete, their work done, Ghave felt they could not turn away from their people. Ghave believed the Drakkusians would return, or that other outsiders would take their place. Looking to their quickly growing people, Ghave felt the solution was obvious. To prevent their enslavement and genocide, Ghave would lead the myconids on a march across the world, spreading the fungal forest with each step they took beyond its borders. First Drakkus fell, its already weakened people easily overtaken. The kingdoms beyond fell swiftly at first, each unprepared for the assault they faced from the strange forest filled with mushrooms and molds. And though others now fight Ghave and their army, the myconid sovereign knows in their soul that they will soon cover the world, ending the threat to their people.
