Evra, Halcyon Witness

Thousands of years ago, before much of the written record of current Dominarian civilization, there existed an impossibly powerful and large empire known as the Thran. Stretching the whole of the Dominarian globe, the Thran Empire had mastered the magic of artifice, constructing powerful machines which could perform any task they required. The capital city of the Thran Empire was an enormous platform, floating hundreds of feet in the air, an incredible monument to the brilliance of their creations. On the day the Thran Empire fell, this floating city fell with it, crashing to the ground in a cloud of poisonous smoke.   Collapse from the Inside The end of the Thran Empire was brought on by a spellcaster known as Yawgmoth, who betrayed the empire in a search for power, igniting a civil war which ended with a poisonous gas being released on Halcyon. Yawgmoth’s attempt to turn this poisonous gas on the citizens of Halcyon succeeded, but when Yawgmoth lost control of the Null Sphere, Thran’s central control station for their defenses, his own forces were overwhelmed by the gas as well. With little other choice, the remaining citizens of Thran either perished at the hands of the fog, or were forced to flee to the plane of Phyrexia to survive.   Creation of a Silent Witness When Halcyon was flooded by the fog, millions of citizens died, in addition to the millions more who perished across the Thran Empire during the civil war. In this tragedy, powerful psychic forces were unleashed by the concentration of death and magic, giving birth to a being borne of the remnant consciousness of all Halcyon’s citizens. Rendered mute by the horror of its own birth, this powerful avatar was given the name Evra, and has since wandered the plane of Dominaria, watching the course of history as millenium after millenium passes by their eyes. Evra has been witness to nearly every major event of Dominarian history, sometimes playing a background role so subtle that those involved in the events are unaware of Evra’s influence at all.   Light of the Null Moon Many thousnads of years after they were exiled from Dominaria, the Phyrexians returned in a grand invasion scheme, attempting to conquer and destroy their former home. Countered in a worldwide effort which saw the population of Dominaria banding together, the Phyrexian invasion was spearheaded by Yawgmoth himself, now a god-like creature given form as a cloud of pure necromantic energy. Unknown to history, Evra joined this battle directly, and when Yawgmoth appeared, lent their strength to fighting back against his power. In the final effort to destroy Yawgmoth, the Null Moon, remains of the original Null Sphere, was shattered and its energy brought directly to the battlefield. While this effort failed to kill Yawgmoth, Evra absorbed some of the energy released from the Null Moon, an action which caused their powers to grow immensely, transforming Evra into a strange half-deific creature with access to incredible psychic and radiant abilities.
