Crackling Triton

Though the majority of Theros tritons worship solely Thassa, there are others whose thoughts fall more into alignment with other gods such as Keranos or Kruphix. While worshipping gods other than Thassa is not forbidden, trtons that choose to do so are often thought of as strange, and treated as outsiders among their own kind. Thassa herself does not care who a triton worships, as long as they continue to treat her as their major patron.   The payment for the strange looks and lingering stares is often access to powers beyond those granted to other tritons. Keranos in particular relishes the chance to steal away any of Thassa's most faithful, and readily grants blessings to tritons that are willing to do him service, wreathing their hands in crackling red lightning, and giving them power over the sea storms that rage overhead.   A Touch of Lightning Those who live on land, such as humans and centaurs, often refer to the underwater worshippers of Keranos as crackling tritons, due to the sound of the lightning running across their body. For sailors in particular, cracking tritons are an unwelcome uncertainty, as their natures are as fickle as the sea. While one might offer warning of a real danger ahead, another might try to trick a ship into sailing straight into risky waters.   The majority of sea captains have found that the best way to handle these tritons is to outright ignore their advice, and simply tried carefully as they continue ahead. The most veteran captains, however, eventually train their intubation to tell whether a crackly triton means good or harm, and are merciless in their judgment. For them, if a triton means well and offers real warning, they reward the bottom-dweller with some small treasure or trinket in exchange. If they determine the triton's advice to be a trick, however, the're more likely to offer a rain of spears and arrows, meant to kill the deciever before a less-shrewed ship could fall prey to their wiles.
