Bitterheart Witch
Dark magic flows as readily on Innistrad as water, with any number of foul sources and patrons to draw strength from for those who seek it. Those that make deals with demons for power are known as warlocks, but there are others who turn towards more primal forces for their magic, known to the inhabitants of Innistrad as witches. The ancient powers that witches traffic in are often older than the angels themselves, are choosing the proper patron can radically alter in what way a witches spellcasting manifests. The Bitterheart Witches know this all too well, having dedicated themselves to ancient spirits of vengeance and putrefaction, and being marked in turn.
A Curse for Living Bitterheart witches often live in the deepest parts of Innistrad's forest, drawing in harvest from the forest floor, and hunting and scavenging what they can't grow for themselves. Rarely do they leave their sheltered homes, even to meet with each other, as each Bitterheart Witch is host to pockmarked skin suffused with noxious gases. These witches all worship Gurnivir, the primal spirit of decay, drawing power from him but in turn forced to live with his curse. Most Bitterheart witches turn to Gurnivir seeking satisfaction for a wrong that has been done to them, as Gurnivir is also the spirit of vengeance. Each witch believes they are willing to pay the price, and some likely are, but many still harbor regret for the burden they must always carry with them after their revenge has been claimed.
A Curse for Death Despite their wretched condition, these witches still cling tightly to life, each one of the terrified of what they face in death when Gurnivir claims their spirit. Their souls belong to Gurnivir, and they will not be brought into the Great Sleep as other humans are, shepherd on the way by the Flight of Alabaster. Because of this, each Bitterheart Witch harbors a great hatred for the being which will eventually kill them, enough to power a single dying curse. As a death spell, this curse is almost impossible to lift. Worse still, as it lingers on, the affected might find their own mind slowly twisted towards the worship of Gurnivir, eventually finding themselves in the same fate as that of all Bitterheart witches
