Benalish Honor Guard/Benalish marshal
Benalish Honor Guard
The term Benalish honor guard refers both to a specific unit within the Benalish military, and the soldiers chosen to work within the unit. Each Benalish honor guard is formed for specific purpose, such as protecting an esteemed dignitary on a lengthy trip, or aiding one of the many angels which work with Benalia in fighting against a powerful enemy. Most Benalish honor guards are disbanded after their original mission is completed, but a rare few are maintained and made permanent, usually for missions which have no designated end, or for honor guards that show incredible results in the field of service. To aid in the success of their mission, the members of a Benalish honor guard are gifted with beautiful enchanted weapons signature to Benalia, which they are granted full ownership of upon completion of the mission. For members of a permanent honor guard, the fact that they never truly own their weapons is meant to remind them that they are never done serving Benalia.

Benalish Marshal
Just as the members of a Benalish honor guard are carefully selected, the leader of each honor guard is given even more thought before a decision is made. To be given the honor of appointment as a Benalish marshal is usually a cause for celebration for the soldiers of Benalia, and though the ranking is informal in some ways, it is often considered to be of the highest esteem. Many given the title of marshal go on to rise much further in the ranks of Benalia’s army, and for those given a permanent position as the marshal of an honor guard, they are immediately promoted to positions of high command and importance to reflect their status. These honors are not easily given- each Benalish marshal must be capable of leading the honor guard they are given in a way that brings forth their true potential, and must plan and prepare for every possibility on the battlefield and during a missions, to ensure that no soldiers are lost, and that above all they succeed no matter the cost. Most Benalish marshals, but not all, choose to lead their soldiers from horseback even in battle, allowing them to see above the heads of the enemy to keep track of their soldiers’ positions.
