Baird, Steward of New Argive
The nation of New Argive was established centuries ago in the bonding of two other nations, and has stood strong in that intervening time, weathering many trials and tribulations. Dragons, demons, and powerful sorcerers have all failed to break the protective bastions of New Argive. Many factors play into the lifespan of the nation, but among them, the Stewards of New Argive play an especially important part. These powerful warriors are chosen from New Argive’s most elite, and serve as its military leaders, as well as providing insight and advice in everyday governance. One of these stewards, a man by the name of Baird, excels among the rest as a distinguished hero who has worked to route dozens of attacks and invasion attempts.
Uncommon Protector Even among the excellent martial abilities of all stewards, Baird is a shining star, a prime example of the best defenses which New Argive has to offer. A veritable mountain of a man, Baird always moves to battle in a beautiful golden plate armor, draped in the white fur cloak given to all stewards. In keeping with tradition, Baird also rides with his Steward’s Axe, a weapon which serves as a mark of office, though he prefers to fight with a simple shield and shortsword. In single battle, Baird is incredible to watch, moving with power in every step. But when leading an army, Baird’s best qualities come to the forefront, as his soldiers trust him implicitly, and his excellent knowledge of historical military tactics allow him to foresee and adjust to a variety of situations.
Trust in History Coming from the nobility of New Argive, Baird was given martial training and military education in equal parts, and like all of New Argive’s stewards, his mastery of them is never in doubt. But Baird is well-known for going above and beyond, and is said to have an encyclopedic knowledge of every military expedition New Argive has commenced since its founding, and the exact tactics used in each. Baird has even given time and dedication to studying the ancient nations of Kjeldor and Balduiva, who came together 1500 years ago to form New Argive, implementing and advancing those techniques to great success. Baird believes that the many centuries of peace which New Argive has experienced can be replicated ad infinitum so long as the nation trusts in the history it carries.
Preventative Action Baird truly believes that any situation which uses violence can and should be solved before the fighting ever occurs. Baird never goes into a battle without a list of tactics and soldier movements ready to use and adapt on the fly depending on the situation encountered. In single battle this remains true, and Baird will often use positioning of both himself and his allies to his advantage. So intimidating is Baird’s confidence that even attempting to draw close to him can cause enemies to second-guess their actions, delaying their own attacks long enough to give Baird the split-second he needs to dive in with quick strikes from his sword, or a powerful blow from his axe.
