Auratouched Mage

The city streets of Ravnica teem day and night with magical power, coursing through cheap trinkets and enchanted blades, wielded by novice spellcasters and expert archmages. In rare cases, the accumulation of magical power in a district might result in something known as Brightfog- a shining, silvery cloud which hangs over the district, giving off the same level of light that one would be given on the night of the full moon. While the fog lasts for only a week or two, children conceived or born during this time exhibit strange magical powers. While the exact abilities might vary, some patterns have emerged over the centuries, including the shining auratouched.   Knack for Concentration Auratouched is the name given to children born with a specific Brightfog mutation which causes a slight glowing in their extremities, similar to the glow given off by the Brightfog itself. While the physical symptoms do little to help or hinder the auratouched, they are known for their ability to intensely concentrate on anything which catches their interest, rarely losing their focus once it is given. Because of this, while the auratouched are one of the few Brightfog mutations not given to inherent magical abilities, many grow to become mages in adulthood, their ability to so strongly concentrate allowing them to quickly study and absorb the difficult techniques needed for many powerful spells.   Ready Casters Though an auratouched doesn’t share the same magical gifts many other Brightfog-born children do, there are still a few magical traits which they exhibit, first among which is an ability to supernaturally react to danger. Given even a moment to react, an auratouched mage can almost immediately perform all of the necessary steps for a spell which would take any other spellcaster seconds to cast- a difference that could mean a lifetime in the unpredictable chaos of Ravnica. Beyond this, an auratouched can also see past magical illusions with minimal effort, and with training, can learn to concentrate magical power in their hands, causing their already bright extremities to give off a powerful light- with enough heat to burn those they touch, making for an effective, if uncommon, surprise attack.
