Angelic Overseer
When Avacyn first arrived on Innistrad, she found the angels that preceded her coming organized into three Flights, each of which dealt in some ways with protecting humanity. But the darkness of Innistrad is intesnse, and while the angels served an important role, the believed protection of the balance between good and evil to be more important. Avacyn decided this was not so, and after decimating the unnamed Fourth Flight, she reorganized the angels, keeping the Flights intact but appointing a new form of hierarchy, with herself at the tops. In this hierarchy, many angels remained peers, but a select few chosen by Avacyn for their skill in leadership were appointed as Overseers.
Watchers of the World Overseers play an important role in the balance created by Avacyn, working to maintain relations between the humans of Avayn's church and the angels who protect them, ensuring that the angels of each Flight continue their assigned duties, and watching for new threats to the balance. But since the disappearance of Avacyn, the Overseers have stepped up to their new and most important role - keeping alive the hope of Innistrad's humanoid inhabitants. From humanity's hope that the forces of darkness might once again be driven to the far corners of the world, the Overseers draw incredible strength, enough to overcome any enemy, no matter how powerful.
Beacons of Protection Like many other angels on Innistrad, the Overseers are designed and trained for battle, their divine abilities turned toward destroying those threats too powerful for the rank-and-file of the Flights to take care of. But while powerful on their own, the Overseers are granted their own blessings from Avacyn, in the form of powerful enchantments which further increase their combat ability when fighting directly alongside those they are charged to protect. For Avacyn, it was important that the Overseers not just watch over Innistrad, but that they inspire the people they are meant to defend to guard each other. To her, the defense of the world and its people meant little if the angles could not inspire as well as guard.
The Strength of Belief An Angelic Overseer is gifted with the same divine strength as her sisters, and her weapons, bearing the insignia of Avacyn, smite foes with divine light. And when necessary, the Overseer can use divine magic to heal wounds, summon radiant light from the sky, or cloak their weapons in heavenly fire. When leading humanoids, such as Cathars, into battle, the Overseer can call upon enchantments gifted to them by Avacyn. This magic cloaks the Overseer in divine protection, saving them from harm, and if an Overseer would be slain while under the protection of this enchantment, they are instead granted salve from death itself.
