Amaranthine Wall
Enormous, powerful, unfailing, and eternal are all words which have been used before to describe the amaranthine wall. These strange constructs are rare, with only a handful believed to exist in the world, though their true number is difficult to determine. Glimmering with a strange and unearthly beauty, each amaranthine wall is covered in a number of whorls and shapes that seem to be entirely random, and which can be seen to subtly shift in front of an observer.
Shrouded Origins The source of the amaranthine walls is unclear, though most agree they are clearly magical, as little about them can be claimed as natural. Some extraordinary spellcasters find methods of controlling the walls, albeit temporarily, but other studies into the walls have turned up no results. The amaranthine walls seem to have a bare minimum of intelligence, enough to chase those who attack it, but the method it uses to determine the locations of creatures, as well as how it creates the strange headaches which seem to be its primary form of defense, are unknown.
Perpetual Existence Attracting the attention of an amaranthine wall is dangerous, since the wall is capable of chasing people for miles before giving up, and is almost impossible to harm or damage. Unless properly equipped, taking down an amaranthine wall is a fool’s errand, since nearly any conventional weapon will break against the wall’s surface unless previously enchanted. Not many amaranthine walls have ever been destroyed, and those that have disappear over the course of only a few days, leaving no trace behind, further adding to the mystery of these strange, shifting structures.
