stone temples

The stone temples found in the deep ravines of the Red Rock Mountains are one of the most ancient wonders of the Land. But despite their magnificence and beauty, few dare go there.
The temples are lost places, doomed to wither away slowly, burying with it a time even before the first rising of the sun. But alough the sand and the wind eat away rock and stone, the carved temples stand still, enduring the teeth of time to the bitter end. Local lore says that the temples will stand to the end of time and even beyond.

Geography

The temples are found hidden away in small ravines, often invisible until one suddenly stands in front of them. Many are only to be reached on small paths with a sheer drop down into a narrow and winding river bed on the one side and an unforgiving wall of rock on the other. hes paths are very dangerous to tread.
For some of the temples, these paths have long since broken away, leaving them suspended in the middle of a sheer rock wall, unreachable to all but birds and such.

History

The temples are the work of demons, before the rising of the sun and long before the birth of the other mortal races. In their time they where masters of craft and magic and by uniting these abilities they built temples for their lord and maker that would endure all time.
But when their Lord was taken from them and the sun first burned their skins, the temples turned hiding places. For uncounted ages they hid there, making more and more tunnels, crouching low on the ground as the voices of the gods thundered in the heavens above them.
And when that battle of words finally ended and the Devil was tossed from the skies to the burning hot soil, the gods also drove out the demons from their caves nd bound them to the desert.

Ever since the temples stood empty. Only the carvings on the temple walls remain to tell the stories of that time. But the mortal races are born to feel disquiet around these places and shun them, believing them posessed by dark spirits. The truth of their making was never revealed to them either by their gods, the high spirits or the other spirits that followed later.
