Dark Forest
The Dark forest is the ancestral home of the dark elves, given to them by the gods at the dawn of mortal creation. It lies in the far north-west of the Land, bordered on three sides by the sea. It is mainly a vast coniferous forest including a mountain range, the Raging Mountains.
the dark elves however had to leave their homes at the end of the First Order, as an ancient monster, the Souldestroyer was to be imprisoned there and made the land uninhabitable.

Geography
This vast forested land in the north is home to a great many hidden places. Below the treetops there are plains, rolling hills, little streams and big rivers, caverns and caves and deep vallys.
Localized Phenomena
Altough it lies in the far north and is thus home to a cold climate, the ancient magic of the dark elves keeps both plants and people rather untouched by the snow. Only because of this the flourishing population there is even possible. Yet this exactly is also one of ther dark elves greatest secrets. For few know of this magic and what it does for the people there. In a rater great manner, the magic itself nourishes the people there. These so called magic wells were once a gift by the high spirits. They are also the source of the pale blueish orgreenish light seen from afar.
In later days, after the imprisoning of the Souldestroyer, a darkness seemed to loom about the land, sometime forming a dark dome over the land. This was of couse the spreading darkness of the monster, beeing kept at bay by the ancient magic of the dark elves.

Natural Resources
- During the First Order the magicaly influenced climate allowed for many plants and herbs to grow that the dark elves used for their everyday lives as well as certain rituals
- During the Second and the Third Order, the wood of the trees from the forest edge were used as building material for luxurious furniture. This was done by mostly humans in spite, to show how little they feared the Souldestroyer. Yet as the common folk feared, the owners of these items tended to have terrible accidents, experience horible loss or get killed in various fashions
History
During the First Order, the dark elves lived in this land, weaving powerfull magic to protect them from the cold from the first of their days. They were aided at first even by the high spirits for the respect and awe the dark elves showed them. This was a greater gift than any other, as it allowed the dark elves to touch deepe than all other mortals into the deep magic of the world, thus making their magic more powerfull than the gods themselves had intended (the offering of thei homeland for the imprisoning of the souldestroyer was partly as to repay this gift).
After the departure of the high spirits, the dark elves had little contact with the other races, save the light elves. Even the mages they mistusted for in their hearts they knew they had more power than they ought to. In this time they shaped the land to their willing, altough little of it was changed to the open eye. Most of the change was of magical nature. Bit by bit the dark elves changed the nature conditions around them, allowing for rare plants, flowers and hebs to grow there.
In the Raging Mountains they built their castle, the only major architectal structure they had. Here was the seat of thei power and knowledge. Protected from undeserving eyes they studied the arts of deep magic. Many of them found a fansination in dark magic in the deep halls of the castle, for it required an enormous amount of self controll and was thus seen - if used not too extensively - as a highly respectable skill.
Some misjudgements of ones abilities caused parts of the mountains to collaps at times, yet the magic gone wrong could ever be set right again by the united power of the dark elves (This is one of the reason they thought they would be able to controll the Souldestroyer with their united power later on).
At the end of the First Order however, the dark elves agreed to imprison the Souldestroyer in their land. They had to leave, so the dark forest turned cold and lonely and made even darker by the presence of this ancient monster. For altough his prison was carved deep into the mountains - on the eastern side, the castle on the western side was thus kept secret from the other races.
From the Second Order on the lands of the Dark Forest became a dark and lonely land. Altough the Souldestroyer had been buried deep within the mountain in the Cave of Stars in a stone husk madeby the craft of the dwarves, its darkness could not be bound by these things. It spread through the land, yet beeing confined to them by the ancient magic of the dark elves the darkness seeped through the very trees themselves and darkened the sky above it, seeming from afar like a great dome.
A guard of dark elves was set at the forest´s border to keep out those greedy enough to steal from the treasures left behind (and to make sure the secrets of the dark elves remained as such).
Even after the destruction of the Souldestroyer at the end of the Third Order, these lands remained dark and cruel and people avoided them. Forever after, the hatred of that ancient monster flowed through the land and turned on anyone that ventured there.
