Village of Verailles (Vur-EYE)
An extremely small settlement that is notable perhaps solely because of its tragic destruction. While ruins are nothing exceptional in the land of Ostelliach, the relative recency of the destruction of the Village of Verailles is what makes it notable. Bandits, driven mad by greed or some other base vice, ransacked the unassuming town and all but razed it to the ground, during a time when bandit attacks were few and far between enough that many small towns barely protected against them.
Prior to its destruction (which due to occuring during the night meant very few escaped unscathed), the town was known for being close-knit and communal. Large gatherings were held to celebrate milestones of each member of the town's life and the village was fond of throwing impromptu festivals or parties to celebrate small wins or even simply to boost morale/foster community. It was this thankless spirit of connection that was felt most sharply by the loss, and though it is little comfort to the survivors (few though they may be), the destruction of Verailles at least served as a wakeup call to inspire others across the land to better guard their borders against tragedy.
