Remnants

Beyond pointed ears and unnatural lifespans, Remnants have very little in common with the Elves we interact with every day. They are a species out of time, deeply infatuated with the past and drawn to places rich with history.

Where do they live?

While some Remnants choose to live among us, many inhabit places where they can connect more readily with the past.

Among ghosts of bloody battlefields, some choose to wander the ruins of forgotten cities, and ancient wastelands, forests burned away by massive wildfires, kept desolate by their presence.

Physical Description

To see a Remnant is a rare thing. Their physical appearance is as ephemeral and strange as their nature. Their movements are odd, graceful in a way that seems to step in and out of sync with the present.

Common Physical Traits

Psychology

Remnants entire being is a reflection of their obsession with the past. This may give off an air of disinterest or disconnection from the world, but its only a side affect of their unique relationship with time.

This relationship also has quite an interesting affect on their speech, leading them to confuse ancient events with those that happened only yesterday, and vice versa.

"To a Remnant, a day and a millennium are but two pages in the same book."

-Alistair Goldbrow, High King of the Northern Dwarves

Magic

While not known for their magical prowess, Remnants to possess a very instinctual, passive form of magic known as Psychometry, the ability to touch an object or stand on hallowed ground, and are able to see and walk through their memories as if they were there. This ability makes them highly sought after as historians and lorekeepers, able to witness events millennia after they occurred.

Society and Inter-species Relations

Despite their insular and reclusive nature, Remnants are often well-liked by other races, especially the Dwarves, who share their fascination with history and reverence for tradition.

The Remnants ability to perceive history has been incredibly helpful to them, who often employ their services for:

As a result, Remnants hold positions of great honor within their Kingdoms, serving as trusted advisors to centuries of Dwarven nobility.
