Ra'datmu

Raʻdatʤeūsêˈ Ratmu ˈ/raʔdatˈˈ ʤeūsêˈ ˈratmu/ ˈor Ra'datmu ˈ/raʔdatˈmu/ for short, translates crudely to Shivermind Disease. It is a disease that ravages the northern lands of Cha'reh territory.

Transmission & Vectors

It is extremely contagious through bodily fluid transfer from an infected individual.. According to some Cha'reh scholars even a small scratch from an infected individual may leave to transmission. There is little agreement about how early an infected individual is capable of transmission. For reasons unknown to any the Char'gem do not contract the Ra'datmu.

Causes

The Char'gem suspect the Ra'datmu is carried by evil spirits that inhabit an infected being's life blood.

Symptoms

Ra'datmu inflicts both mental an physical changes on an infected individual. Initially it causes an infected individual to become irritable and suffer sleep disturbances. Careful inspection of the point of infection may reveal mild discoloration, but physical symptoms are minimal at this point. Mild skin discoloration begins on various disparate points on the body of the individual. Gradually this worsens as the individual is tormented by whispering voices only they can hear. As these voices worsen the individual begins to further deteriorate mentally until they are little more than violent feral animals. The discolored patches begin to turn greenish and bear a stark resemblance to short fur. In rare cases bony growths begin to form on extremities. Usually the violent change is quickly followed by them going comatose. The discolored and green patches usually cover the individual and external bony growths become obvious. According to some Char'gem sages the individual dies during this coma and what rises afterwards is merely a appendage of the SHIVERMIND.   Regardless whatever rises after the coma behaves strangely. It exhibits little to no knowledge of it's prior life, and the earlier feral rage is replace by a cold intelligence. At this point the individual will do everything in it's power to escape and if escape is impossible then a Raʻdatʤegbadyu, or shivermind horde will descend on the unfortunate outpost that hoped to hold the infected individual. Char'gem sages say this is due to some kind of shared mind that inhabits the infected after the coma. They call this shared mind the SHIVERMIND.

Treatment

The Char'gem sages have not developed any effective treatment. According to ancient lore, the Cha'reh once attempted to perform rituals and other careful study but it merely result in greater infection rates. Thus now being infected as a Cha'reh results in being exiled to a Char'gem facility for study and care.

Prognosis

Infection is a death sentence. Despite Char'gem sages efforts no known cases have recovered after being confirmed to be infected.

Hosts & Carriers

Raʻdatʤegbadyu /ˈraʔdatˈˈʤeūsêˈgbadju/, or roving hordes of horribly disfigured beings that contracted the disease are the primary carriers of it. Many Cha'reh and Char'gem consider these being no long human. Between the drastic mental and physical changes it is hard to argue these roving hordes of green furred beasts with long bony claw and armor are still human. They exhibit no recognition of their past lives before infection. On the rare occasion there is an account of them speaking it seems as a unified mind commands them and speaks only of rage and hunger.

Prevention

Cha'reh perform many cleansing rituals and avoid physical contact with strangers to avoid contracting the Ra'datmu.

Epidemiology

Ra'datmu outbreaks primary follows attacks by roving Raʻdatʤegbadyu /ˈraʔdatˈˈʤeūsêˈgbadju/ and their attacks on Cha'reh settlements.
