Anselum

"The Town of Two Cultures"

Anselum sits as the capital of Norvo. Once the home of the Golden Pharaoh A'tehm, much of the settlement still holds the original architecture reminiscent of the desert born who built it. This style is composed of beautifully sculpted bricks held together with thin layers of Bitumen. This style has slowly been merged with that of Norvian culture over the years, adding many white columns that support the churches of Pelor, their ceilings painted with mosaics of the knightly god himself. While the new look brings a much sleeker and modernistic feel to the city, the oranges and beige of the original settlement blend in a manner that makes Anselum a reminder of a vibrant past, and a beacon for a rich future.    While Anselum remains one of the most wealthy cities in Orsbir, it is not without its share of turmoil. Many of the Desert born who have been assimilated into Norvian culture and lands still hold resentment for their colonizers, and many would happily reach for a spear to end the Pope's life. This has yet to happen, but those within the city know that their peaceful and wealthy standard of living may be shattered by one simple act of treason.
Pope Alexia III currently rules over Norvo, from her seat in the grand cathedral in Anselum. Her rule has been called a blessing of Pelor by the Norvians, as in her position she has instilled renewed vigor amongst her peoples in religious pursuits, and has claimed one of the important colonies in the history of the trade coast- Norvo. Having single handedly brought up the political wealth of her people, she has and will go down as one of the most influential rulers of her time.    During her early years of governing Norvo many uprisings and attempts on her life by the native desert born have been thwarted and crushed by the iron hand of her law, but this has made her more of a recluse by necessity, and it is not often that she is seen by any outside of the cathedral besides her chief advisors.
