Ummiati Kinngait: the Mountain Kingdoms
Structure
The sacred mountain range is ruled by three separate kingdoms—divided geographically—each with their own hierarchies. However, those who directly serve the Alusi are regarded as the highest authorities throughout the Kinngait.
Akwezi Spires
Anyanwu is the firstborn of the Alusi, thus the leadership of the Spires passes from firstborn to firstborn along the generations. Worship and leadership are the same function in the Spires: the Akwezi Obi is also the high priest of Skyfire Spire. The Obi's family comprises the clergy of Skyfire. The other spires operate similarly, with other branches of the Akwezi family ruling as Obiats, their families as priests and temple guards.Stoneblood Halls
Amadioha is a god of justice, storms, life, and law. Stoneblood children learn rhetoric, logic, athletics, and warfare from the time they are children to prepare them for potential leadership. Each clan elects three of its own to represent them in the Honored Council. These representatives are housed in the Hall of Implacable Granite and rule the Kinngait caverns via majority vote. A representative's term lasts five years and they can be reelected twice.Valmagne Basilicas
Ala, the Earth Mother, is second only to Chukwu in the hearts and minds of the Ummiati. The Valmagne matriarch raises her daughters as judges of both the living and the dead and rules the Kinngait underdark from Carbonneau Basilica. While House Valmagne dictates the national laws and serves as the judiciary for the region, the ruling of each individual basilica is left to the native House.Culture
The gith ultimately defeated the illithids, but the regions ruled by the gith were entirely destroyed. The Kinngait are believed to be the site of the illithids' entrance to Oros; the native culture was entirely obliterated. It was the guidance of the Alusi that drove the survivors to rebuild and reclaim the mountains. The Alusi are a part of everything the Ummiati do because the Alusi are the reason the Ummiati exist.
Religious leaders are the most venerated group of the Ummiati, and aasimar are viewed as gifts directly from the gods.
Gender roles vary between the regions of the Kinngait. Anyanwu represents androgyny, thus both gender roles and gender identity are unimportant among the Spires.
Though Amadioha is a masculine god, masculinity is not one of his aspects. Consequently, the Halls support a simple patriarchy but do not rigidly adhere to related traditions.
Among the Basilicas, children live their lives without expectation to experience as much as they can. Once they come of age, those drawn to a religious life are considered the embodiment of femininity. The definition is loose and shifts with the generations.
Foreign Relations
Khaldasht and the Ummiati have been bitter enemies since their inception. Once the illithids had been defeated and the world had begun to rebuild, dragonborn pilgrimaged to the Kinngait in the hopes of rededicating the peaks to the Draconic Trinity. The Akwezi family skirmished with the pilgrims until they were forced to retreat. Eventually, dragons did return to the Ummiati Kinngait, but the Alsui were established and no concessions were made to the draconic gods.
Dragons rarely interact with the Ummiati, so it is unknown how they feel about the change.
Recently, Akwezi priests have discovered that pure dragonstone can cure the Four Blights. To Khalasht, however, their use is desecration most unholy. The only thing stopping the nations from going to war are the innocent nomads of the Tribal Steppe and citizens of the Free Cities of the Long Road.
The crest of the collective kingdoms is the sun rising behind a mountain.
