Conjure clouds of killing fog, or conjure creatures to fight for you
Can eventually learn to teleport self
School of Divination
Understanding of past, present and future
Strive to part consciousness of space, time and consciousness
Try to master spells of discernment, remote viewing, supernatural knowledge, and foresight
School of Enchantment
Hone abilities to magically entrance and beguile other people and monsters
Bewitch violent to lay down arms, charm cruel into showing mercy
Could be a tyrant who magically binds unwilling into their service
School of Evocation
Creates powerful elemental effects such as bitter cold, searing flame, rolling thunder, crackling lightning, and burning acid
Sometimes part of military as artillery to blast enemy armies from afar
Some use power to protect the weak, others use powers to seek their own gain
School of Illusion
Magic that dazzles the senses, befuddles the mind, and tricks even the wisest folk.
Subtle magic, but makes the impossible seem real
A lot are benign tricksters who use spells to entertain
Can also be sinister, and use illusions to frighten and fool others for personal gain
School of Necromancy
Explores cosmic forces of life, death and undeath
Manipulates the energy that animates all living things
Can sap life force from creatures as you magic destroys their body, transforming that energy into magical power you can manipulate
Not all are evil, but most considered Taboo by many societies
School of Transmutation
Student of spells that modify energy and matter
Believe world is not fixed, but eminently mutable, and you delight in being an agent of change
Wield the raw stuff of creation and learn to alter both physical forms and mental qualities
Can turn people into toads, or copper into silver
