BORD PROPHECY HELD BY PANELL

  Panell reveals to Bord that when he was young, he too left Gourdham, and explored the world of Terus. He even tinkered with a lute during his travels. He managed to make his way to the Island Nation of Magiault, where he and his friends heard of a strange, remote village named Dalfang, where people claimed they could see the future.   "Being young and stupid, we thought it'd be fun to check it out. We followed the Wanding Way to the edge of the Island to the village of Dalfnag, and found the Seers on the edge of town, and despite the uh, creepy feeling, all went in to get our fortunes read, you know? I went last, feeling a little uneasy about the whole thing, but everyone came out laughing and joking, saying nothing too serious, so I went in. I later learned the true seers didn't take us seriously and had some apprentices speak to us, and what my friends heard were mostly made up things and more like, uh uh carnival fortune telling. But that's not what I got. The minute I stepped into that tent, the guy I was supposed to talk to, he uh, his eyes rolled back in his head, and a chill crept down my spine. The shadows in the room, they got darker, deeper, elongating like tentacles reaching out for me. It was freaky man. And the seer, he suddenly was right in front of me, his hand clutching my shoulder, his eyes pure black, and he said:  

"YOU! Your child will be the ultimate key. A large, black feathered form born to a smaller family of brown feathered bird folk. With the child's death, this prison will be unlocked, its guardians wiped from the cosmos. HE will at last be awakened from his eons long slumber, his followers rewarded beyond their wildest dreams, and the gods themselves will tremble from HIS fury."

  And then, this apprentice seer, Sid, dropped dead before me. The other seers said it looked like he had been strangled... some thought I did it, but there were strange markings on his throat, like something had been wrapped around it, something wet and slimy, and they seemed to know it could not have been me.   I did not stay in Terus after that, I returned to Ghourdham, and have not left since, trying to remove the whole incident from my mind. And I did. Until my our two children were born, and I waited in terror, and then Ardwood and Chellf came out brown and beautiful and regular-sized, and my fears ceased. Maybe the Seer had been wrong, or it had been some sort of stroke poor Sid suffered. And I was happy... until the day you were born, Bord, and I knew.... you were different from the rest of us, as Sid, said you would be. Black as night, noticeably larger. With a cruel fate before you.   And so I'm telling you this now, knowing I should have told you sooner...but I thought maybe if I could keep you here, protect you, keep you away from Terus, from whatever nightmares awaited you there.... but it seems, fate has its own plans. My actions toward you drove you away regardless. And you ended up in Terus no matter my desire. Now though, knowing all this, I must ask you, please Bord, stay here. Do not return to Terus. Only death awaits you there, and much, much worse.
