Hobgoblin Clans

BASICS

  • 6 wandering tribes of the eastern part of Nalied Desert
  • 5 of the 6 clans (not the Ushani) fiercely prejudiced toward Spellcasters
  • Most also have a dislike toward Domunz itself, especially of the Lancu Sea and the island nation of Magiault
  • Live by hunting and cultivating the earth
  • Nomadic existence for most of the tribes, though some (like the Ushani) have also put down roots in a base camp village
  • Have developed ingenious ways of capturing water in the arid environment, especially for a people averse to magic

Ushani

  • More tolerant tribe
  • Hold lands closest to Oroccid (Tremorfall and Cambrey Valley)
  • Allow non-Hobgoblins into the tribe (including Mak'Ti once he is freed)
  • Still had slaves until recently, Mak'Ti was one of the last ones purchased

Ushani History

  • Founded by an unusual Hobgoblin Female named "Sajnad" Sajnad original sheet
  • Sajnad and her husband Rojnad, were Hobgoblins from the Magiault island of Sta (before that clan was driven off the island to Tufenes and later the Nalied Deser)
  • The pair were unsual in that they had their own moral code they kept to, and their own ways of doing things, including being amongst the first of their kind (to their knowledge) to openly marry
  • They were banished from their clan when it was discovered they were releasing prisoners instead of executing them, and they eventually found themselves in the pit-fighting rings of Bronzehook
  • They later got framed for a murder they did not commit, and were caught up in an investigation that eventually led them to save Captain Will Terry and his ship, the Fok Yaw, and they were amongst the first to face the fury of Andrea Scrollage (though they did not know it)
  • Once the Fiends invaded Domunz, they joined the fight to protect the lands, eventually falling in with the crew of the Ultimatum who had been tasked with patrolling the Lancu Sea, and were among the first people to spot the resurrected Kraken on the ocean, fleeing from the beast and warning many others of its presence
  • Eventually, they came across a small boat near Magia, whose crew seemed off. Knowing of the Fiends ability to alter their true selves and the evil that had come to Domunz, they tensed, ready to attack. Unfortunately the Ultimatum had come across the Death Joints, they themselves having recently fled a battle. The DJ were a little trigger happy and wary of the original Ultimatum crew, who they owed a small debt to. The Death Joints attacked the Ultimatum crew, and Sajnad watched in horror as most of her people were mercilessly killed, including her husband Rojnad. She took control of the ship and fled, sinking the DJ boat as she did so, and taking the damaged Ultimatum back to Chalinos, where she hunkered down with many of the townspeople following the Kraken attack, and the attack by by the Dark Ember assassins on the Hollowed Inn.
  • Following the war, Sajnad encountered many Hobgoblins from Sta wandering the lower Nilos Woods and Cram Forest, and she gathered them around her, intending to seek a new life outside the horrors of Domunz, isolated and able to live with nature.
  • She took her people to the eastern Nalied desert, where they basked in the heat, and enjoyed the free space, which they had been lacking, especially during their time on Sta. Sajnad named her clan Ushani, partially inspired by the New God Bushanny, who she prayed to often for Rojnad's safe passage to the Underworld, hoping Bushanny would have a place for the pair when she passed. She gradually taught her people tolerance, about love, and organized the Clan to both protect themselves and their lands from interlopers, including the roving Orc bands to the south.
  • Unfortunately, not everyone agreed with Sajnad's way of doing things, and it was only a few years before the clan began to splinter. In less than two decades there were 6 clans (see below), who began fighting over territory and resources. Sajnad, though she was growing older, was still well-respected amongst all the clans, and she brokered a settlement between them all, giving everyone a part of the Desert to live in and cultivate to their own desires. The Ushani remained in the Northeastern part of the desert, closest to Oroccid and farthest from Domunz, as Sajnad had no desire to be close to the lands that had caused such pain in her youth.
  • She was always wary of spell-casters after the events of the Ultimatum, and passed down those suspicions to her people, though as always the Ushani were a bit more tolerant than the other Clans. She also recognized that the community she had built might be appealing to others aside from Hobgoblins, and welcomed any to the Ushani tribe who offered their loyalty and promised to help protect, defend, and grow the clan. As such, the Ushani, though mostly comprised of Hobgoblins, includes a number of other species as well.
  • Sajnad lived close to 80 years, passing only a few decades before the start of C3. During her time she found a new love, Dergwin, with whom she had a child named Adwin, who would lead the tribe after her passing.
  • When Mak'Ti was sold to Adwin 7 years ago, he was a little nervous when he discovered his slave had arcane abilities, but in time he recognized the usefulness of Mak'Ti's abilities, especially in protecting his clan. Following his mother's example, he freed Mak'Ti and welcomed him into the clan as one of their own, until the day Mak'Ti felt he had to leave, driven by those same Arcane abilities. Adwin pressed Mak'Ti to return if they should ever need aid, and bid him farewell in friendship.
