Elixere

An awakened liquid: elixere is blood which has been alchemically enhanced.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Although a bright red liquid, it is not otherwise similar to blood. It is considerably less viscous, though still thicker than water, and does not clot or stick to most surfaces. Additionally, direct light reflects off its surface as yellow in coloration.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Has tremendous healing powers: a small dose can restore any wound, and a larger dose is sufficient to regrow lost limbs or vital organs. If taken regularly, it can extend a subject's lifespan indefinitely. It fills the subject with vigor and strength, though it does not supplement an essential diet. It also cannot cure a disease or poison, though it removes any current symptoms from any such ailment.

Origin & Source

Because blood is biological in nature and has many chemical components, treating it for alchemical use is extremely difficult. Despite centuries of experimentation and study, even the most skilled alchemists can only achieve a 10% success rate in synthesizing elixere in a laboratory, and their process produces a small vial of substance after several days of work. Thus, the most reliable source is still the acquisition of creatures in the wild which have been mutated by raw magic to produce elixere naturally. Such creatures are extremely rare, but the healing property of their own blood means they do not age, and can yield consistent amounts in perpetuity as long as given adequate care. Such creatures are worth many times their weight in gold.

Life & Expiration

Unlike blood, this liquid does not dry; instead, if left in an open container, it sublimates into vapor which quickly loses its alchemical properties and becomes mundane air.
