Raiding of the Temple of Karkus

Military action

344LE

Raiders discovered the Temple of Karkus, killing almost everyone but leaving the relic.

The Temple of Karkus was well established after three hundred years. Other Irkka and a few Aeshwen and Humans had joined over they years and an entire, sustainable community formed. Karkus, the original prophet was long dead but her message had endured and the relic was protected.   In 344 CE a band of war-hungry raiders found the forest. They entered, believing it to be devoid of inhabitants and looking for somewhere to hide and recuperate. Scouts from the order of Karkus spoted them and tried to kill them to make them leave. Unfortunately most of the scouts were killed in the attack.   Those who survived fled back to the temple complex and warned the others of the approaching threat. The acolytes had been training and honing their fighing skills for an event like this. Unfortunately they were vastly outnumbered.   Despite taking out the majority of the raiders, the Karkus warriors were defeated and the temple was ransacked. Those left alive remained but with significantly reduced numbers. The relic was kept safe underground but at a great cost.
