Uplift Hybrid

"What we call the Uplift Hybrid, FEI-4 through FEI-6, was never intended by our geneticists. The original intent was, I'm embarrassed to say, generation of HEI-2 to HEI-3 hybrids for less than savory purposes. Genetics doesn't have a mind of its own, but it does follow rules, and one of those rules is probability. A simple Punnett Square would've shown the corporations their folly." -Doctor Beryl Benjamin   A hybrid more uplift than human, FEI-4 through FEI-6. Most often appear as bipedal animals with thumbs. These are the least common sapient terran species. The vast majority are canine or vulpine, though there are some felines. They’re typically the strongest and toughest bipedal fighters in human space.   Examples: Caniform, Vulpiform, Feliform   Ability Bonuses: Vitality +d2, Alertness +d2   Skill Bonuses: Perception +d2, Athletics +d2, Unarmed Combat +d2   Base movement: 20 feet (counting Fast on Your Feet)   Additional Advantages:

• Sharp Sense: d2 (your choice which sense)
• Athlete: d2
• Fast on Your Feet: d2
• Natural Weapons: d2
  This trait represents the natural weapons of the Hybrid. These may include claws, crushing teeth, tusks, or vicious kicks. All unarmed attacks deal Basic damage and add the Trait die to damage. If improved, this trait may be split to represent different weapons; for instance a vulpiform hybrid may have a d4 bite attack, but a caniform may have d2 in Bite and d2 in Claws.

Optional Species Disadvantages:

• Uncommon Anatomy: d4
  The upper FEI levels were never intended by Terran geneticists, and your hybrid expressivity is the rarest. Most weapons, clothing, and accommodations need to be custom-built for your character. This is primarily an RPing Disadvantage, but if the DM decides that your character’s anatomy is a hindrance to a task, they may add 6 to the difficulty of the roll.
• Black Dog: d2+
  Many people find hybrids of this expressivity level unnerving- neither animal nor human, something atavistic that triggers fear responses in both human and uplift. This is primarily an RPing Disadvantage, but may add the Trait to the difficulty in creating and maintaining positive relationships with other characters.
• Sensory Overload d2+
  Keen sense can be an occasional drawback as much as an asset when exposed to overwhelmingly powerful scents and sounds- especially when the hybrid doesn’t have the full neurological equipment to handle it. Whenever the character is out of combat and in an environment with unusually strong odors or noise, they add the trait die in difficult to any social and perception actions taken for that scene.
