Medium Uplift
"The documentation on why we started the uplift program is voluminous and frankly boring. What's more interesting is the process that we used to create them. What's by far the most interesting thing is how well we succeeded. We knew that we had evolved alongside them for most of our species history; this was academic and somewhat interesting. But working on the gene-lines... if I believed in a god, I'd claim the god had a hand in all of this. Because when we started to work, everything just fell effortlessly in place, like it was always intended to be this way." -Doctor Beryl Benjamin
The most common of the uplifts, Medium Uplifts are usually predatory quadrupedal mammals between 50-200 lbs (23-90 kilos). Neo-Humanity almost naturally assumes ‘canine’ for this class, but it includes medium predatory cats, hyenas, and even kangaroos.
Examples: Wolf, Puma, Kangaroo
Ability Bonuses: Agility +d2, Strength +d2
Skill Bonuses: Unarmed Attack +d2, Athletics +d2, Perception +d2
Base Movement: 30 feet
Additional Advantages:
- Sharp Sense: d2 (your choice which sense)
- Split-Second Timing: d2
- Natural Weapons: d4
This trait represents the natural weapons of the Uplift. These may include claws, crushing teeth, tusks, or vicious kicks. All unarmed attacks deal Basic damage and add the Trait die to damage. This trait may be split to represent different weapons; for instance a hyena may have a d4 Bite attack, but a puma may have d2 in Bite and d2 in Claws.
- Thumbless: d6
Most of neo-human space has accessibility options for uplifts, but your character runs into problems more often than others. Maybe you can’t attach servo-arms or run drones, or you’re stuck in space that isn’t uplift friendly. This is primarily an RPing Disadvantage, but if the DM decides that thumbs are necessary for a task, they may add 6 to the difficulty of the roll. - Strong Instincts: d2-d6
The medium uplifts were built as slaves, and sometimes their instincts run a bit too strong to function properly. This may be more than a roleplaying hook; for instance, a canine uplift may be overwhelmed with the urge to chase down a fleeing opponent, even though they know it’s a trap. When you do try and run counter to your natural instincts, the Difficulty for any roll is increased by your Trait die. - Pack Loyalty: d2+
Canines in particular suffer from this- a desire to fit in with the pack. The instinct to please your friends, allies, and employers has never left you. Primarily a roleplaying trait, this may add the Trait die in difficulty to any actions taken that would displease your chosen allies.
